Windswept hair at the Junction

The Junction Arts Festival has livened up Launceston since the 24th August. Many of you have also visited and I decided to snap some shots today, the last day of some arty fun.

The Inflatable Whale by artist Mark Cuthbertson has moved around the city. Delighting little kids and big kids alike.

I have been smiling all week as the Streets Alive Arts Trail: From Junky to Funky popped up around the hood. A few laughs this afternoon at Re-Made: Art Fashion for the 21st Century as some of the recycled and upcycled fashion were displayed. One described as being 'mad tight', a new term for the pool room.

 

 

And what crafter could forget to mention the Crocheted Chocolate installation at Nanna's Coffee and Vintage Cafe. The Launceston Brown Owls had a chocolate-y session, which unfortunately I had to miss. Loving the work.

Today

Walked through the streets. Walked through the parks. My place is truly beautiful.

Let's make making pom poms the new planking...

There was a bit of a pom pom craft frenzy at our house last night. A great way to use those scraps of yarn that we all have. And the repetitive motion of yarn wrapping is somewhat relaxing.  A few of these will be given to Team Textiles for Knit Lab.

We have also packaged some up for Pip at Meet Me at Mike's. These will be in the post to Melbourne tomorrow and we cannot wait to see the outcome of The Pom Pom Project!

We went to the opening of Knit Lab last night, an interactive exhibition at Sawtooth ARI. A creation by Team Textiles - three talented textile artists.

The exhibition runs from 8th to 30th July and will evolve over the duration as visitors are encouraged to participate by contributing to the knitty artworks. I am planning on knitting a square or two.

Soft. Butterfly.

Catching up on my blog reading this morning after a few cups of tea. I have just seen these lovely images by Gloria Marigo via Daydream Lily.  To me, the softness of these photographs captures the true gentle nature of the butterfly.

These paintings mesmerise. Dane Lovett paints in acrylic and watercolor. The everyday object such as the old VHS video or beat box is transformed. The plant life cuttings in bottles is especially significant to us as it is something that we do. Pretty wonderful - wish we had one.

Sleep On It: Mattresses=Art

I was reading a post by the talented Savina, highlighting an appreciation for the abandoned mattress.

It reminded me of some photographs I saw a few years ago by Toby Richardson. The particular series is entitled More Singles Couples and Queens (2008), depicting used mattresses. They are amazing prints. The friend that was with me had to look twice before she recognised the subject matter, she was so taken by them.
